Matt Small's portraits on show now at ActOne Cinema

Our latest exhibition features a selection of Matt Small's striking portraits of young Londoners, with works in paint, mosaic and on found objects. Portraying the wealth of emotions in young people, often all too familiar with being viewed negatively by society and the media, the portraits force you to look into their eyes and acknowledge the depth and breadth of their lives. The layers of paint, discarded metal pieces and craftmanship of these portraits are truly extraordinary and mesmerising to experience in person. Seeing truly is believing.

For our young people to flourish they need to feel society sees them and acknowledges them. When a child is left out, ignored, dismissed, pushed into the shadows, the belief that they are irrelevant, that they are of no consequence can take root in their mind. We need to cultivate self-belief in all our children and young people so that they have the strength to go forth in life and achieve great things. By investing in them from a young age, we demonstrate that we believe in them.

For when all young people flourish, then so too does society as a whole.
